First time reader here -- I found out on Monday that I have stress fractures in my left foot and recently started running in Newtons. Like you, I thought I started out slowly, too ... but apparently not so much. What's the story on your injury? Would you mind sharing some details? The treadmill makes me dizzy too! Every time I finish a run I have to take a short break where I just stand there and get my bearings because if I just stop right off I'll fall right over.

Don't worry about the first week - everybody has to take breaks sometimes.

Love the Free's...especially the color. I've been looking them over for a while, so I will be interested to hear your report on them. You are right on the "foot out of shape" idea. Too many people are in the wrong shoe with way too much support. Ever read Born to Run? Highly recommend it...other than telling a compelling and inspiring story, it also discusses the foot problems so many of us have gotten as a result of our shoes.

Love the blog...definitely going on my "follow" list.

Thanks for posting about the Newtons. I appreciate it more than you realize. I've purchased a pair three weeks ago, but have been a little reluctant to wear them. I took them out of the box today and wore them, but to workout in, not to run. I think, as you've pointed out, that I need to start out slow. They definitely feel different.

Puuurty Nikes! I think those warrant being paired up with a day-glow green running shirt!

Nice job on the treadmill run! I have a pair of Nike frees (from way back when they first came out) and I like to wear them for easy recovery runs at the track. But NEVER on my dirt roads - ouch!

I've been told by several runners out here to just get myself a pair of Nike frees already! I love my Newtons, but need a 2nd different running shoe, for the treadmill. So I bought a pair of Asics...but they are too cushiony. I think the Nike frees are my answer.
Now I just need to justify the money for those, and a new pace watch, and....this, and that;-) ha!

Heather!!! Thank you!!! I was trying to find shoes that weren't quite as barefooted as my vibrams but were still very light and had about the same concept... I think you just found my next pair of running shoes!!!!
