The wrong kind of streaking...

Last week I received an email from the good people at Runner's World Magazine asking if I would go streaking with them.
No, not like this...

Hey mom, you'll never guess where I'm calling you from...

...like THIS
As in, their Holiday Running Streak.  A mile a day between Thanksgiving and New Years. And with my ultra training off to a mighty fine start, if I do say so myself, I figured, I'd be all over this.  So I enthusiastically said, sure thing! Absolutely! Count me in!

And then I quit running.

I'm not sure exactly how it happened.  Blame the turkey.  Blame the travel.  Blame all of that pesky registration/inspection/car stuff the state of NH made me do this past week.  Blame the cranky kids, blame the things my support system had to take care of that trumped my running schedule (totally understandable).  Blame the fact that time really does fly by when you get older, but I find myself here, 10, yes TEN days since my last run.

I'm pretty sure that's not the kind of "streaking" Runner's World had in mind.  Do I feel ashamed? Do I blame Runner's World for jinxing me?  Did I catch a case of the "lazy"or "excuse making" that runs rampant like an epidemic this time of year?

Perhaps the latter more than the former, but the point of my story is, it happens to the best of us.  Believe it or not, running is not my *entire* life  (though if I don't get in at least 5 miles today I'm pretty sure I will self destruct.  Like, true human combustion) Even with skipping 1/3 of November running, I still logged 95 miles.  I am content with that.

But today my friends, marks December first.  The last month of a year that will go down in record books for me as one to never forget. For so many reasons, good and bad.  But I vow to end this year on not just a good note, but an EPIC note.

So who is with me? Join us for Runners World Holiday Running Streak of 2011.  ( On Twitter?  Be sure to you use the hashtag #RWRunStreak  )  Or don't (I do love rest days too!)  But whatever you do...be sure to make this the best month yet.

How do you plan to end your 2011?

I wish I could join you! However, I have already been told by my family that I MAY NOT under NO circumstances, RUN ON CHRISTMAS EVE! ...I guess if my husband gets called into work and I take the kids in the stroller without inconviencing anyone else, it would probably be OK, but I really don't want that to happen. That would be the worst! I also don't run on Sundays (although I do know people who have done streaks and just consider Mon-Sat). I just wish the holidays were not on Sat this year! It is messing up my "road to Boston" training plan. I'm going out by starting my marathon training officially on Dec 12. I have to do my long run on Dec 23. Boo.

I'm (sort of) in the injury boat- laying off the running miles for a couple weeks and instead logging whatever distance/calorie burning I can on the bike or elliptical. I think it's still great, though, to commit to being active every day through New Years. No need to wait 'til January to start and keep a healthy, daily routine!

I am already deep in my streak. I'll end this year on Day 600 (God willing)!

So I'll be streaking all month long...and then some.
