Up on the shore they work all day...

I have to apologize, that my posts as of late have been few and far in between, but I'm busy out in the real world living the dream.  Well, sort of.  I get in my car at 7:00 am and get home at 5:00, where I quite literally referee my children between cooking for and cleaning after them, as well as the nightly splash fest other wise known as bath time.   And while I miss being able to check into my beloved social media forty seven bajillion times a day, know that I am having fun while temporarily (painfully) disconnected from the internet for 10 hours a day.

This must have been what life was like in the 90's...and every decade preceding. You know, when the only time you could connect with someone not in person was over the phone....but you had to wait until you got home to your non-mobile phone before you could call someone.   Feels funny to say that I didn't get my first cell phone until I was 21, and my first smart phone only two years ago, but the days of NOT being instantly connected are hard to remember.  Actually, I fear that countless rounds of "angry birds" on my droid have likely erased those memories.  Ahhhh the good old days.  The "I walked to school in the snow, up hill, both ways" of our grandparents generation will be the "I remember when I had to wait for dial up to connect AOL" tale to tell my grandkids one day, as they roll their eyes in disbelief at crazy old Grandma.

But back to my story.

The internship is going so well. Sure, not every moment of the day is training someone to their greatest athletic/fitness potential.  There is busy work. Cleaning. Dusting. Just today I pumped up, and then wrangled from one side of the gym to the other, about 40 stability balls. I laughed as only 1/3 of them actually went in the direction I wanted them too...I joked to myself that I needed a sheep dog to assist me. Darn balls.  But still, it's proving to be exactly what I always hoped it would be.  Sharing my knowledge about health and fitness. Encouraging people to better their health and fitness.   I love every second of it.

And so, I took the leap and registered for my ACSM HFS certification.  (American College of Sports Medicine Health Fitness Specialist).  Probably (don't quote me, but I think) one of the highest credentials one can have in this industry without earning a Masters Degree first.  Thursday September 22nd.   I go back and forth between utterly freaking out about the massive amount of information I need to know for this exam, and then reminding myself to be cool....there is nothing on that test that I have not been presented with before, and I didn't get straight A's and B's in my classes by luck. I know this stuff...in theory.  The info is in my brain, somewhere, I just need to pull it out and organize it.

But...it's kind of hard to do knowing that in 12 days I will be in the most Magical place on earth.  As the little dude on the commercial says...I'm too excited to sleep! There will be rides. And cupcakes! Mickey, pools...and running. LOTS of running. And costumes.  OH I'm so excited for my costumes. I wish I could show you, but I can't. Why? Because I'm a  29 year old nerd who LOVES surprises. I may hint at it. I may already have.  And chances are, I won't make it 12 days without spilling the beans (and chances are, you don't care either way, but Disney brings out the kid in me and I'M EXCITED, DARN IT!)

So, there is your current episode of as Heather's life turns.  I'll finish off with the fact that it's supposed to drop (yes drop) down to the 70's this week, and I'm giddy over getting some serious outdoor mileage in without fear of heat exhaustion.

Oh, and read my pal Hope's blog post about yesterday's Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower's 5k.  I didn't run, and I didn't organize, I just checked people in and cut fruit, so I don't have a ton to write about. But Hope...well she brought a wonderful race to our town and I'm so very proud of her.  So check it out!  http://www.teamepton.com/2011/09/911-remembered.html

Happy running my friends!

I got my first cell phone at 21 also and I still don't have a smart phone. I just started texting a couple months ago! Glad you are enjoying the work and good luck on the test!
