Fear not the bulk...

In no particular order, my random ramblings from the past few days:

what will happen if
you lift 35 lbs...
(j/k)
-Everyday I am reminded of how the average person has almost zero knowledge of exercise science. And believe me, that's OK, it is not an insult to their intelligence and I'm not turning my nose up at you if you can't explain what a "VO2 max" really means.  I know nothing of cars, other than where to put the gas and to freak out if an orange or red light comes on. Oh, and I still have no idea what a derailleur is or where to find it on my bike.  Point being, everyone has their areas of interest, and I'm happy to share my passion with others.  Like, to the lady who came to me telling me a trainer (not at our gym) told her she should NEVER lift more than 30 lbs, for she would "bulk up".  This woman had to be well into her 60's and was rocking the abdominal weight machine like a swing set on only 30 lbs, frustrated that it was so easy.  *sigh*.  I explained the whole testosterone deal and the fact that for most women it takes SERIOUS commitment, diet, and heavy weights to add muscle "bulk", and she should not fear the heavy weights.  30 lbs.  If only that was true, I could curl my kids and have some killer biceps.

"Partners" in medal chasing...

-I applied to be on the Disney Moms Panel as the "runDisney" mom.  I'll be absolutely shocked if I get a call back.  I love Disney races probably much more than I should, but I quickly realized my knowledge of Disney World is nothing compared to some people out there  (see above paragraph about areas of knowledge). I can tell you where your piriformis muscle is,  I can help you train to run a Disney race,  I can tell you all about the expo and the starting line, corrals, what it means to "beat the sweep", medals,  pictures, running costumes, and post race parties... but I can't tell you who designed the "partners" statue in front of Cinderella's Castle.  Heck, I didn't even know the statue was CALLED "partners" until they asked the question, and I googled, only to find it is what I formerly called "that adorable Walt & Mickey statue on my future Coast to Coast medal".  (and yes Disney, if you by some chance are reading this, I googled. Please don't let that affect your opinion of me, I swear I have the heart, the runDisney love, extensive running/exercise knowledge...and I'm an assertive problem solver. I still got the answer, one way or another, haha). These Disney fans are hardcore, I bow down to them.

is it "lululeMON or luluLEMON"?

- I got my first pair of ridiculously overpriced lululemon clothing.  Speed shorts in citron and coal plaid, ( for those in the know) and excuse the TMI, but my booty has never looked so good in shorts, ever. I mean, never. I love you speed shorts, to the moon and back (assuming you don't tear up my thighs on tomorrow's run...you are mighty short).   So maybe, just maybe, the price is justifiable :)

-Today I heard my first complaint at the gym (have I mentioned how awesome it is there? That's why it took 122 hours of interning before I heard a complaint). It was over the music (Pandora, classic rock station) and I was told that the Red Hot Chili Peppers were NOT real music.   I couldn't decide if this conversation made me feel young, because I love RHCP, or old, because they are considered "classic rock". I decided, in the style of Goldilocks, I was somewhere in the middle, or "just right".

- 6 days until my ACSM HFS exam.  Guess what I'm doing most of this weekend?

-Tomorrow I have a long run.  In 15 days I may or may not have a half marathon. Surprise! (ha, like you didn't guess already...) And hopefully, tomorrow, I will have a chance to put together some more concrete thoughts for you all.

Happy Friday! Anyone racing this weekend?

Just pretend to "charge" people you catch staring at your backside. $1 each time. If you collect enough to cover the cost of the shorts, they are worth it.

Heh, years ago my MIL decided she wanted to lift weights, but would only do light weights and high reps, to keep from bulking up. The woman is an endomorph...she couldn't bulk-up if she tried. I'm a mesomorph and put on visible muscle with relative ease, but I still will never be bulky without an insane amount of effort and 'roids.

Definitely luluLEMON. The other way makes me laugh. Although it does make it sound classy, kind of like Tarjeh for Target... On a side note, Vancouverites like myself now get to thank them for being ranked the 3rd worst dressed city in the world.

Good luck on your exam! :)
