Sporty Girl Jewelry review & GIVEAWAY!

I may have mentioned a time or two here on this blog that my "girly" side is usually displayed strictly, and ironically, through my running. I'm not one to get dolled up to go out. The thought of "I can't leave the house without makeup" has NEVER crossed my mind (in fact, I'm pretty sure all the make up I own has long since expired). The only pair of high heels in my house are a shade of deep purple, and were worn once, in April of 2009 at my sisters wedding.

But when it comes to running...watch out. Running skirts? You betchya. Neon PINK everything? Yes please, give me more! Hearts and flowers covered headbands? Check! Running inspired jewelry? Say it isn't so?!!

So when Ann of Sporty Girl Jewelry contacted me about a review and giveaway, there was no way I was going to turn her down! Girly or not, jewelry makes us ALL feel pretty, and puts a little sparkle in our lives.

Ann, a running mom herself and creator of Hip Mom Jewelry (seriously check that out for the non runner in your life, GORGEOUS pieces) has launched a new line called Sporty Girl Jewelry. Ann has created unique, hand stamped pieces inspired by running, triathlon, and even those "court ruling"ladies, volleyball, tennis, and basketball. And being a new line, I'm sure there is plenty more to come!

When Ann contacted me, she told me of a new piece she created, and just hearing about it, without even seeing it, I fell in love with it. A Joan of Arc quote " I am not afraid...I was born to do this". Sends chills down my spine just thinking of it! Maybe I've always channeled Joan without even knowing it, but "I was born to do this" is something I've told myself time and time again on a tough run. My body was created to do this. My body was created to run freely, not waste away on a couch or in front of the TV. I am stronger than I think. I was born to do this. Combine that with my older sister's mantra that often repeats in my head "Fear no Distance", and well, you can see why this piece tugged at my heart strings.

The necklace arrived yesterday, and was packaged so beautifully I felt like I was opening a Christmas present early and about to get busted for it, haha! And inside the pretty package was a beautiful necklace with even more beautiful meaning. The sterling silver pendant is about 5/8" x 1" and is hammered for texture. And it's simply beautiful. This is no factory production line product, this is a hand crafted, made to order piece, and you can tell just by looking at the awesome craftsmanship. Ann also continues the customization and personalization by letting you chose the chain type (or black rubber or leather cord) and length. I chose sterling silver box chain, in 16 inch length. I wish these pictures below could do this necklace justice. I need a new camera, ha!

I know this may sound sort of silly, but as I slowly prepare for my next marathon, the one where I hope to prove myself RIGHT, that I am so much stronger than I used to think, this necklace has now been added to the arsenal of race day equipment. I will run in style, but I will run with that reminder around my neck. I was born to do this.

So ladies, email your husband, conveniently leave the website up for your boyfriend, put in a phone call to your mom or send your letter off to Santa. A Sporty Girl Jewelry piece is a MUST on your holiday wish list!

Not only was Ann kind enough to send me this beautiful piece, but she is offering a gift voucher for $45 to one of my lucky readers to pick out a piece of their own.

I'd probably suggest something like "Silence The Voice" b/c for me, beating that inner voice telling me that I can't or that I need to stop is more important than beating the clock during a race...

I would love to see one that says, "Miles to go before I sleep" or "The journey begins today". I have a necklace that I need to replace. It's a compass with 'the journey begins today' engraved on the back. I've been wearing it since I started running and the silver plating has completely worn away. I would love to see a similar design on a race tag!

I think it would be nice to have the quote
"If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right." - Henry Ford
It is pretty long, so I don't know if it would fit. I decided a year and a half ago that I was going to stop being afraid of the water. I now swim 3 days a week and have completed an olympic distance tri. I worked for Ford for many years and still race on their corporate challenge team in my "retirement" as a mother.
