We are dog sitting this week for my younger sister's mutt. I'm not going to lie, I was thinking "oh great, I'm going to spend the week with a dog bouncing around my house and two screaming kids getting pissed off when the dog takes their toys". But less than 12 hours later, it appears to be quite the opposite. Poor dog alternates from cowering under my desk to sitting in my lap like a huge baby. Meanwhile, the 3 year old wants to BE a dog and keeps trying to climb under the desk with him, and the 1 year old has a fascination with the doggy's nose (and doggy's food. eww). The dog's name is "Aiden", yet my son decided that last night he will be called "Katie" and today, "Alice".Sorry sister it appears your dog might be a bit traumatized after this week...
Oh but don't feel sorry for the poor puppy yet. In the time it took me to look down at my own plate of food, Rowen had shared half of his with the dog. Then told me he needed more because "me n the doggie are HUNGRY!" I'll admit, it is nice having a little "hoover" roaming the house. The area under Kain's high chair has never been so clean. (Don't worry sis, no chocolate or raisins, I promise)
More than anything, I'm so paranoid this dog is going to poop in my house. Which is silly, really because a) he's housebroken, and b) my carpet is already covered in toddler pee. Yes potty training is still going strong. For every perfect, no accident day, we will have a day of Rowen walking up to me, pants soaked, and say something along the lines of "oh, whoops" totally nonchalantly. Walking a dog is just as irritating as sitting a toddler on the toilet 3,762 times a day and just waiting for them to do their business. I wish I had a fenced in yard, then I could set them both free outside.
(kidding, of course!)
I remember how hard it was when Kain was a newborn and Rowen was 2. I remember thinking "this is the hardest part, it will get easier!" Well come to find out, it never gets easier, it's just an ever changing different kind of "hard". My needy newborn is now "toddling" around the house and scaling anything that can momentarily support his body weight, and my sweet little first born is now an opinionated 3 going on 15 year old. His use of the words "disgusting", "ridiculous" and "hilarious" are, well, hilarious.
As it is the week of Thanksgiving I'm sure blog posts will be full of things people are thankful for. And mine is no different. Every single day that I wake up to either a baby shaking his crib in protest, or a 3 year old peeling my eyeballs back saying "GET UP it's 7 o'clock-thirty!", I am so , so incredibly thankful for this chaos, this life, and these two beautiful baby boys. I really wouldn't have it any other way!

Aww, as I sit here with my 2 children at school and a quiet house I am a little (only a little : ) jealous of your chaos!
Sounds like an action-packed weekend at your house. Enjoy "vacation"!
Sounds like a fun home!! I hope my new hardwood floors hold up to littest when potty-training comes around!
Enjoy the time off,err vacation, ohmmm, getting to be a mommy without some of the other stuff going on too. ;-) Moms don't get days off.
Your two boys sounds a lot like mine... although, mine are 7 and almost 5 now. My older one was/is opinionated and my younger one was/is a little monkey. I relate to your chaos. I also relate to being so thankful for the noise and joys two boys bring to a home.
Great post! Have a fun week off with your little men. :)
"I wish I had a fenced in yard, then I could set them both free outside."
You realize you're not the first mom who has thought of doing this... LOL.
Dogs figure out pretty quick that toddlers are a goldmine of forbidden treats. My dog understands the word "cookie."
Just in case, Happy Thanksgiving!
Ha ha! This was so sweet! Love the 3 year old waking you up bit - that is too cute!
Hope you have a great week!
What a cute post! Poor doggie...I mean, poor you!
We are nuts and are probably getting another dog (we have two now). A new puppy and a toddler do not mix.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Sounds like the perfect life to me - a puppy and 2 adorable boys? Doesn't get better than that. Can you tell I'm jealous?
It is important to take a step back and be grateful for everything you've got. Good reminder, in the chaos of our busy lives!
cute post, just think, if the dog really is traumatized, you've gotten it out of the way, and you'll never be asked again. Enjoy the well-deserved break, and happy thanksgiving to you and yours :)
It sounds like a happy kind of chaos!
Sounds like the chaos at your house is a lot of fun.
And, as far as I can tell, parenting never gets easier, just different. And I'm convinced that there's a special place in heaven for moms of more than one boy. LOL
MCM Mama
sounds crazy fun!!! Loved the fenced yard part! Happy Thanksgiving!!
lol - love the fenced-in yard comment too! :)
i imagine it's often easy to get frustrated over these things, but it sounds like you are doing beyond an excellent job of keeping a smile on your face. hope things don't get too crazy over the holiday!
Yesterday my Facebook status was "I am Thankful that my children can talk. Now if they would just stop fussing." LOL!! There are so many things to be Thankful for, but as a Mom it is a fine balance between humor and insanity.. If only there was a day to sleep in, or have a quiet house..
No Dog sitting for me...I dont like the idea of animal hair.. YUCKERS!
Hilarious post - love the part about the fenced in yard!
Oh hilarious! (the post of course, not the chaos;) ) My 22 month old has started taking his diapers off and also is very helpful in the mornings--pulling my covers off when he deems it time to get up.
