I run a good amount. Probably should be more considering I'm nearing the end of marathon training, but still my numbers are up there. Three days a week I wake up at 5:00 am to go to an hour long, somewhat intense fitness boot camp. Definitely gets my heart rate up and works those muscles (or lack there of, ha). Regardless, in the last month, I have gained 6 lbs. On top of the 5 I still have left to loose from the baby (who will be one in 3 weeks, what?)
Why you might ask? Let me introduce you to my friends:
We've got my BFF, the ol' standby, through thick and thin. Happy moments, stressed out moments, and everything in between, I turn to you, Mountain Dew.
I'm afraid if you were to cut me open, I would bleed neon green. Taco Bell. I had never tasted your cheesy goodness before I met the love of my life (Rich, not the Dew.) For only $2.49, I can have all four food groups (meat, veggies, dairy, and grains!) in a handy easy to eat crunchy wrap. *sigh* You are too good to hate, even if the source of your beef might be questionable.
And to your left we have Mr. Hostess Cup Cake. Why have I been craving you like no other lately? Who knows. Your high fructose corn syrup swirly makes me swoon.

Ask the girls I work with what I'm going to order for dinner on my next shift. No really, ask them. Everyone (well maybe not the new girl, I haven't met her yet) will tell you without hesitation
: Buffalo chicken fingers. YU-UM. And lets not forget the side of ranch AND blue cheese dressing.

So, are you sick to your stomach yet (or is your mouth watering like mine? You can admit it, I won't tell.) I feel like such a fraud. I'm always preaching healthy habits to everyone else. And I LOVE working out, I really do. But food is my weakness, especially during times of stress. And trying to memorize the ancient history of India, the equation for a z-score, and the steps of triglyceride oxidation? Hello STRESS!
And further more, am I not the "girl who cried wolf"? How many times have I blogged about this nonsense?

Alas, it has all caught up with me. I was a bit shocked when I stood on the scale today. I even grabbed the 10 lb dumbbell to make sure the scale was calibrated (how very scientific of me!) It was. Those extra pounds are real (and please spare me the "maybe it's muscle" comments. It's not, I assure you)
QUICK! Pop quiz:
How does one fuel a properly trained marathon body with this junk?
Ready for the answer?
THEY DON'T.
*sigh* I am going to get it together. For real this time. No , really, FOR REAL.
Pray for my strength friends. Channel all your inner Richard Simmons vibes my way. This is going to suck.

I'm hearing ya girl!! When you run that much it feels like you can eat anything!!You still rock!
oh man, those are all delicious looking treats. i'm pulling for you! maybe if you give up like three of them, as opposed to ALL. i mean come on, you need a little 'grace' in your eating, right?! ;) good luck.
Good luck with giving it all up. Stress has recently reinstated my previously broken Diet Coke habit. I'm so anti-aspartame and yet, every afternoon this week, my friend DC and I have had a date. Sigh.
MCM Mama
Good luck - I think that Taco Bell should be its own food group
Interesting. WOuld it help to think that a healthier diet would help with your running? Habits are hard to change, so maybe make small changes rather than cold turkey radical changes. Good luck!
I have a love-hate relationship with the McDonald's #8. Yeah, I call it by its number.
My friends are Diet Coke, Oreos, and In N Out. I think every time I eat them that I need to stop, but I just can't.
I need to eat better too. I gave up soda about 10 years ago but the candy, cookies and chips I have a hard time to say no too.
You're no different than the rest of us. Sorry, but you're just not. LOL ;)
I am with you on Mountain Dew. I love it. I dont drink too much of it, but once the can is open, that thing is gone in seconds.
Part of why I run is because I love to eat. There I said it. How amazing is it to come back from a 20+ mile run knowing you've burned thousands of calories and being able to eat whatever you want. AMAZING. But then again, that is why I am still slow. But I'm working on it!
POWER TO JUNK FOOD!
You have completed step 1 of your rehab...confessing to your fellow bloggers that you don't eat healthy. Most of us probably don't, but no offense, I think you took it to the extreme! Now, start step 2 and do something about it. Slowly wean yourself off that crap. Good luck! Keep us updated.
2 weeks to go, right? You've got this! It's hard!
P.S. would you consider changing your comment form so that the word verification thing isn't embedded - I 'm having trouble w/ these!
N.D. I changed it! (testing right now!)
Working on nutrition is a constant uphill battle for me as well! Good luck with the diet overhaul!
Wow that diet looks likes my hubs :) He's running a marathon next month.
What's wrong with Mountain Dew? :-D
Key word is moderation. You can keep the Mountain Dew, so long as its not a two-a-day habit, right? I drink Coke when I'm not racing (a 20ounce bottle, probably three times a week).
Nutrition is so much harder than training!!! I'm actually in the middle of my own little nutrition challenge...4 weeks of good eating gets me a prize!! (and it's not food!);)
That's the only thing that would work for me!! Rules and a prize...
Good luck!
OMG---you kill me girl! LOL. I think most of us runners are guilty of some of the nutritional sins you just posted. Don't worry...you are burning off a ton of calories with the runs.
Suddenly I'm HUNGRY!
You can kick those bad habits. Just think of how much better you'll feel!
all good vibes coming your way! the good news is now you've recognized what's going on and you can start to make changes. I say 1 small change at a time, don't try to cut it all at once
You can still fit those foods into your diet. Have them as a "reward" after a long training run. Like me with ice cream, a pint (or 2 or 3) of Guinness, burger and fries from a pub (with those pints - ha, ha!) Just don't rely on them on a daily basis. Try to eat more healthy MOST days of the week. I'm telling you, you will get your energy back and lose those stubborn last pounds!
Thank you. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only nutritionally challenged marathoner.
nutrition is tough. especially when the tasty stuff isn't good for you and the good stuff isn't all that tasty
One of my best friends is Taco Bell too . . . I also enjoy donuts and fried cheese. I try to eat good for me fuel, but right now, I'm pregnant - so I'm kind of blaming this kid for everything already.
Yeah, the - Look at all I do, I can do whatever I want - theory doesn't hold true for me either. Your new mantra - food as fuel, food as fuel. Your next workout will only be as good as your fuel. Sucks, but true, I'm afraid.
ummmm you sound like a runner and marathoner in training to me and your diet looks about right. I lose weight training for a half but gain when training for a full. W-T-F?!?!?! But you're right, we've got to get back on the wagon because sucky nutrition = sucky running :(
But seriously who can say no to all that delicious badness? Come Oct 1, I'm starting a one month challenge with some of my blogistas. You want in?
I couldn't live without Mountain Dew...I just couldn't.
Most of us do eat crap. That's why we run, right? Ok, maybe not.
Oh girl do I feel you. With my cancelling of my marathon and job stress I have reached for the Taco Bell more than I would like to admit.
I'll do it if you will.
I can hear Mr. Simmons screaming at us right now...
Heather,
I feel for you. I struggle with this issue as well. I feel for the most part I make good choices. It it when stress goes through the roof that I soothte myself with all of the bad stuff.
I have struggled my entire adult life with my body weight. Constant exercising and getting on the scale every day is about the only way I can kind of stay on track.
I haven't run very much this year due to a running injury that has taken forever to heal and I find myself almost 10 pounds heavier than I was at this time last year.
It sucks.
Hang in there. I am rooting for you!
Hostess Chocolate Cupcakes are my weakness! Sorry, I've just pressed my face to the computer screen picture of the cupcakes... Luckily, they come in a two pack, and I'm done. I'm in trouble with an entire box... Seriously.
Have you checked out "Hungry Girl 200 under 200 - 200n Recipes Under 200 Calories?" It's worth a look.
You and me both! Diet Dr. Pepper and any sort of cookie/cake/ice cream are my drug of choice. I go for months and fall off the wagon eating junk like crazy and then I guess I feel guilty and will eat healthy for the same amount of time. Sort of a yo-yo diet without the up and down weight. It is a sickness :)
mmmmm all my favorite food groups! i feel your pain! i am definitely one of those people who runs-to-eat (less-than-healthy)... sigh.
good luck!!!
Ha! I loved this post! I'd like to think everyone has their food vice, but I'm sure there are some goody, goody die-hards out there. ;) I know I'd die w/out wine or pizza!
