let's hear it for social networking!!

This morning we were visited by two old friends I went to high school with, and their little toddler. It had been just about a little over 9 years since I saw them (yes, the big 10 year reunion is looming), and I just have to say: thank you facebook! Without it, I would have likely never gotten back in touch with so many friends from the past, Kasie and John included. Because let's face it, I suck at keeping in touch with the whole pen and pencil and "call me" stuff. Anyway, it was great to see you guys! Last time I saw you two I never, ever would have imagined that the NEXT time I saw you two, our little boys would be playing together. CRAZY! Time flies when you are having fun...

So it's July, and I decided, what the heck, let's run 100 miles this month =) Taking into account my long runs scheduled for this month (7, 9, 11, and 13 milers) I am left with 60 miles to run. Break that into 3 week day runs, times 5 weeks in July, and it comes out to an average of 4 miles per run. I swear I'm not a math nerd. My calculus teacher was actually not to fond of me. But I digress. 100 miles this month = totally doable without overdoing it.

Overdoing it is something I'm trying to avoid at all costs. You see, ever since I had my running catharsis, I've had a whole new outlook on my running. Instead of busting my butt thinking "uggh I'm never going to get to where I need to be in time", I'm busting my butt thinking "hey, I feel stronger today than I did yesterday. Awesome!" Taking the unnecessary pressure off of myself and my training was probably the best move I could have made. It helps that there are no local races until August, so I'm not sitting here pondering if I'm going to be able to push myself enough to take home an age group award. But as a result of this new outlook, I'm absolutely addicted to running again, and having a hard time forcing myself to take days off to recover.

Don't worry, I AM taking my days off to recover. At least 2 days a week at this point. The last thing I want is to start off to hard and injure myself. But I wonder, am I the only one who hates days off? Or are running and I still in the "honeymoon" phase?

I only tend to take one day off of running a week.

See, this is why Facebook still doesn't appeal to me: I really don't care what people I went to HS are up to, and it's been 13 years for me.

But, glad it worked out well for you and you enjoyed the get together!

Awesome that you were able to re-connect with an old friend.

Good luck with your 100-mile month. You can totally do it.

I am a fan of days off! However, I never really went through a honeymoon period (with running or my husband). But, be glad you are loving it because pretty soon that may go away. Let's hope not though. If I loved running, I'd do it every day too. But, not yet.

I think you need to do what your body tells you. If you need a day off - take it. If you feel like you want to run 6 days instead of 5, do it. (I too love social networking sites!)

I love your outlook and making the decision to take the pressure off of yourself is only going to help you. Oh! Yay for Facebook and getting in touch with old friends!

Myspace SAVED my 10 year Reunion, I helped plan the Reunion and used Myspace a ton to connect with people (This was before FAcebook took over).

I hate taking days off too...

FYI my Giveaway is up, sorry no socks, but I think you will like it.

Have a great weekend!

I don't like days off either but they are important. I'm on a running hiatus right now so my days off are from the gym and not running.
