Make a Difference

This year, this running mama is going multi sport....throwing in some swim, bike, AND run as I train my way to becoming a TRIATHLETE! (Uh, oh...I may need to change the title of this blog to RUN..and bike and swim...FASTER MOMMY!) I am proud to announce that I will be racing the 2010 Columbia Iron Girl as a proud member of TEAM FIGHT, in support of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

The UCF provides support programs, education and resources, free of charge, to young adults, their families and friends, who are affected by cancer. As most of you know, very close to my heart, is the Cancer to 5k program. The Ulman Fund is the primary support through funding behind Cancer to 5k. Created by my beautiful sister Holly Shoemaker, cancer to 5k is a training program designed to introduce and/or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity by providing them with the training program, coaches, encouragement and support necessary to complete a 5K. Again, this is provided FREE OF CHARGE to all participants! To continue providing these awesome programs, The Ulman Fund needs your support.

There's no doubt that we are in the midst of economic hardships, and in this time, people may be hesitant to fundraise and ask others for money. But the thing is...cancer does not care about the economy. Cancer doesn't discriminate against age, race, sex, religion, or financial status. In fact, almost 1.5 million NEW cases of cancer were diagnosed last year alone. I have no doubt that each and everyone of you reading this has been touched by cancer in some way. Whether directly, through a family member or friend, a co-worker, or a friend of a friend of a friend, we ALL know how devastating a disease it can be Now more than ever it’s important that we continue to further the fight against cancer.

My Goal is to raise $1,000 as I enter the awesome world of "triathlon". It will take a lot of hard training, but every single step will be worth it in order to help the UCF and it’s endeavors. So please consider making a donation. Every little bit counts, even if you just give up one starbucks coffee or one happy hour beer (you didn't need those anyway, right? haha) and send that money Ulman’s way instead. THANK YOU for all of your continued support!

Much Love, HEATHER

This is really awesome! My dad and I have managed to raise $15,000+ for LLS through TNT and I firmly believe that every $ counts. I would love more info on Team Fight an Cancer to 5k...do they have a website?
